Optimizing outcomes in challenging situations

Dental implants in are increasingly used in challenging clinical situations such as in atrophic posterior maxilla or mandible, as well as in extraction sockets. Recent evidence derived from clinical studies has revealed some of the risk factors, as well as predictors of outcome in these situations. A clear understanding of the critical determinants disclosed in these studies can help clinicians to optimize their clinical outcomes. Advances in implant design can provide significant support in managing these challenging situations.

This presentation will provide many clinical cases to illustrate evidence-based concepts.

Educational objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  • Apply a decision tree for placement of implants into fresh extraction sockets vs delayed placement.
  • Managing bone and soft tissue deficiencies around healed sites and extraction sockets
  • Utilize a decision tree for selection of short implants or narrow implants, versus the need for bone augmentation when treating patients with atrophic jaws.
